    Self-Replicant robotic infrastructure is _not_ limited by the amount of equipment that the population of your planet can control (as all previous infrastructure developments have been); and thus can replicate out of all proportion to anything else in the game, giving the posessor of such technology truly absurd manufacturing advantages over everybody else in the game.
