| A Review of Coalescent by Stephen Baxter |

This book follows several different storylines on alternate chapters. One is that of a modern man who is investigating his family. He eventually discovers a strange and ancient organization deep in the cultural jungle of Rome. The other main storyline follows Regina, a woman who lived about the time that Roman civilization in Britain is falling (quite a while before it falls outright). I don't want to give away too much about what he figures out about the organization, as it would make the book a bit less interesting. I will say that at the end the book, the storyline is connected to the Baxter's Xeelee series of books. I found this book difficult to read toward the beginning, but if you can get by the halfway point it's pretty addictive. I rate this a 6/10. |
